FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 16, 2019 CONTACT: Dolores Nuñez, Development Director (505) 724-4693 (office) (505) 720-0747 (cell) [email protected] SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO – Catholic Charities is expanding its Center for Self-Sufficiency and Housing Assistance to Santa Fe, thanks to support from FEMA and the New Mexico Community Foundation. This funding has allowed Catholic Charities to hire a full-time case manager to work in their Santa Fe office on San Felipe. The case manager will assist families and individuals in Santa Fe with direct referrals to housing, public benefits (such as SNAP, TANF and SSI), mental and behavioral health services and transportation. Catholic Charities will also work with the NM Rapid Response Fund to assist Santa Fe residents facing a crisis. Currently, Catholic Charities’ Santa Fe office provides services through its Center for Immigration and Citizenship Legal Assistance. Last year, the agency also began sponsoring Project Ascent Upon Learning (PAUL), a pilot program organized by Santa Fe author John Lonergan. PAUL aims to help second grade students at Sweeney Elementary School read at grade level with intensive one-on-one coaching, teacher support, and mentorship from Capital High School students. “We are very happy with the initial success of the PAUL program,” said Jim Gannon, CEO/Executive Director of Catholic Charities. “Now we have a great opportunity to add case management to support Santa Fe households in distress.” Jack Conrad, the Spiritual Care Manager at CHRISTUS St. Vincent, has joined the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities to help the agency further its Santa Fe engagement. He will be taking the place of Santa Fe resident and longtime Catholic Charities Board Member Eddie Gallegos, who recently reached his term limit. Catholic Charities’ main office is in Albuquerque, however, the organization continues to find new opportunities to expand much needed services throughout central New Mexico including Santa Fe, Sandoval, and Valencia counties. More details will be shared at Catholic Charities’ Santa Fe Recognition Event taking place on the afternoon of February 22, 2019.
