Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Survivor Immigration Services

The Violence Against Women Act and the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000 were laws passed to improve the immigrant community’s access to the criminal justice system by offering relief from some of the harsh consequences of immigration laws and encouraging improved law enforcement responses to crimes against immigrant victims.  Through these laws, qualifying immigrants who have been victimized may seek legal protections from deportation.

Catholic Charities provides free legal representation to qualifying immigrant victims of domestic violence or sexual assault, including child sexual abuse. Since 2001, Catholic Charities has assisted immigrant victims throughout the entire state of New Mexico.

If you are a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault and a New Mexico resident, please send us a direct message throughout our website: www.ccasfnm.org/dvsasis.html. Due to limited capacity, please allow 7-10 days for a response.

The VAWA Immigration Project at Catholic Charities helps people who have been victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault to obtain legal status and permanent residence under the provisions of VAWA. We provide free legal representation to immigrant victims who are or were victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault – including child sexual abuse – who may be eligible to apply for immigration protection as a result of their victimization. Since 2001,
the VAWA Immigration Project has helped more than a thousand immigrant victims.
