Some common questions are listed below for your convenience, but we hope you’ll reach out if you need more information or if you don’t see your question listed.
Are you a 501(c)3 non-profit? Will my donation be tax-deductible?
Yes! Please see our current 990 here. Our EIN is 85-0110070. Your donation is 100% tax deductible under the law if no goods or services (i.e. tickets to an event) were provided.
What is your affiliation with the Catholic Church/Archdiocese of Santa Fe?
We are a separate entity and are governed by our own staff and a volunteer Board of Directors. Archbishop John C. Wester serves as its corporate (non-voting) member. We enjoy a close relationship with the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and serve within its geographic boundaries (as well as some outside of it) but are not legally or financially obligated to the Archdiocese or any parish. We are a local affiliate of Catholic Charities USA, which is also a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
Does all the money donated stay in New Mexico?
Every dollar raised stays in Bernalillo, Santa Fe, Sandoval, and Valencia counties. All funds go directly to create self-sufficiency for those working to create a better life for themselves and their families.
Does the money raised go to the Archbishop or the Archdiocese of Santa Fe?
None of the money raised goes to the Archbishop or the Archdiocese. All contributions stay within Catholic Charities to support programs serving the most vulnerable in our community.
Who do Catholic Charities help? Do you have to be Catholic?
Catholic Charities assists people regardless of race, religion, country of origin, disabilities, gender, age, or sexual orientation.
In collaboration with local churches and secular community organizations, Catholic Charities’ staff and more than 300 volunteers provide services to thousands of individuals and families of all backgrounds and situations throughout Bernalillo, Santa Fe, Sandoval, and Valencia counties each year. Several of our programs and services extend beyond these counties as needed, including support during emergency and disaster responses.

How is Catholic Charities funded?
Federal, state, and local government dollars provide the majority of our funding because of the types of services that Catholic Charities offers. The remainder is funded by private individuals, local corporations, foundations, and other community partners. Our annual gala, the Saint Nicholas Ball, is the largest single fundraising event of the year, though we work hard to provide many opportunities to connect and give at any level throughout the year.
