As the new year approaches, we have a diversity challenge opportunity for you to continue working toward racial justice in our community. We also invite you to journey back in time to Blackdom in Chaves County, NM and learn about IRRVA, a non-profit supporting African families in Albuquerque.

Immigrant and Refugee Resource Village of Albuquerque (IRRVA) is a 100% volunteer driven African community-based organization that promotes social, economic justice and empowerment of African immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers in New Mexico.

LEARN: Watch this video about Blackdom, the first exclusive Black settlement in the New Mexico territory in the early 1900’s.  This was a planned colony where people could determine their own destiny and not be attacked or harmed because of the color of their skin.

LIVE IT: Join in on the 21-day Equity Challenge sponsored by the Albuquerque Community foundation and United Way of Northern New Mexico. For 21 weekdays beginning on Monday, Jan. 4, you'll receive an email with general diversity information including articles, videos/podcasts, and local information intended to inform and inspire us as continue our work. This will make a great New Year's resolution.
