Senior adults are often on a fixed income, living on social security and/or small pension funds. Affordable housing is essential to allow these seniors to continue to live independently.
Through a collaboration with the Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), the City of Albuquerque and Jewish Family Services, Catholic Charities sponsors Hibernian House, a subsidized housing community for low income seniors. The community consists of twenty apartment units, a community center and computer lab. This community is designed to provide for the needs of senior adults in a safe, affordable and community atmosphere.
Eligibility for housing is based on unit availability and household income.
Rent is subsidized by HUD and residents contribute 30% of their monthly adjusted income towards their rent. Case management services are provided on-site by Jewish Family Services. Community activities include computer classes, access to the internet and email, holiday meals and other activities.
