This service is designed to provide transportation to senior adults in the Albuquerque and surrounding areas. This services allows seniors to live independently while receiving assistance with doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping and other daily tasks.
The most unique aspect of this program is that it is almost solely operated by volunteers. The dedication and caring exhibited by the volunteer office staff and drivers, many of whom are seniors themselves, is truly remarkable.
The drivers are motivated by care and compassion and quickly develop a rapport with the clients and clients are able to request a specific driver which contributes to their sense of familiarity and safety. The clients are picked up promptly and receive door-to-door service. Drivers often wait for the client while they are at the doctor’s appointment so the clients will to have to wait to be picked up after their appointment.
Through the tremendous dedication of these volunteers, Catholic Charities is able to fill a transportation gap since our services do not have restricted hours or geographical boundaries.
